Twist & Amaze

Posted by on Sep 7, 2010 in War 42 | 0 comments

?The fabled wall on the corner of Houston and Bowery has been given new life thanks to artists Barry McGee and Josh Lazcano aka Amaze. In it?s past, the wall has been proprietor to work by Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, and Keith Haring. Now the wall has been completely covered by the tags of the most revered graffiti writers from generations prior up to today. McGee and Lazcano undertook the project to cover the wall with the signature tags of their colleagues and finished the wall of with their own two sigs. The wall is now on display on the corner of East Houston & Bowery in NYC.? ? Hype Beast

The same wall where Adek and the homies destroyed Shepard Fairey’s wheatpasting.

Spotlight: Celoe RTD

World Bench: So what do you write?
Celoe RTD: Celoe/Sleaze

World Bench: Where are you from and at now?
Celoe RTD: I’m originally from Phoenix, AZ.?Then in 2005 I moved to Midland/ Odessa, TX. Went from big ass city to the middle of know where. Only good thing was hit some of the chilliest lines I?ve ever been too out there.? Now I’ve been posted up out here in El Paso, TX the past couple months going to be here for a while.

World Bench: What crews do you represent?
Celoe RTD: I rep a circle of crews that are all linked together. Wouldn?t normally rep so many but it’s like a huge family we all stick together. TSB The Soul Bros. RTD Rebels Till Death. IGK Iron Giants Krew. BY BooYah. LC Letter Cartel.

World Bench: When did you start, how and what made you want to start and who influenced you?
Celoe RTD:
I got interested in graffiti when I was about 10 years old that was like in 98. Not really piecing and bombing, more like doing placas and shit around the hood.? Grew up surrounded by gang life a?lot of my family and friends were involved in them. Then as I got older closer to like my junior high and my freshman years I noticed there was so much more to graffiti then I thought.? I used to think it was just gangs going around hitting up there set, but instead it was all kinds of? different people doing it, and had nothing to do with it. I was like 12 or 13 and I would go skateboard at this old factory with some friends and they used to park trains back there, we would skate n watch the trains go by and I would see these huge amazing pieces. It really caught my eye I would wonder how they did it when they did it.? So I started stealing paint out of my grandpas garage and would ride my skateboard to that factory and after I did that first bomb on some steel I was hooked!?Lol, My main influences were a lot of writers I grew up with that talked so much shit in high school, turned on me, called me toy, and said I wouldn?t ever be shit!? Now I can burn majority of them, and got my name out there a hell of a lot more than most of them. Lol They know who they are I?m not going to call anyone out.

World Bench: I see you rep RTD, tell us about your crew and how you got put down
Celoe RTD: RTD is an awesome crew to be a part of. Everyone always shows so much love and like we stay close in connected with each other all the time.? I’ve only been repping for a few months now.? I?ve always looked up to RTD and it was a shock to me when they asked me to get down. ?lol?I met Shewp like a year ago at in El Paso for this graff show that was put on by my homie Sloke CBS and the rest of the BooYah crew.? Then from there we just stayed in contact went to San Antonio for Clogged Caps 6 chilled and partied. Then a few months ago right before another BooYah show he hit me up and was like I was gonna wait to ask you this but I couldn?t, what?s up with RTD. I was like hell yeah. I already rep BY with a lot of them but like it was dope to be asked to be part of a crew that I grew up seeing on the rails and in all the magazines.

World Bench: Have they influenced your style?
Celoe RTD: Oh for sure! There?s a lot of sick talent in the crew look up to a lot of people like Tazer, Gibes, Gems he?s a monster with the can, ?Machine, Awful,?Dubs, Woe, my boys?Striker and Token they got them lines on lock, and the list goes on and on so much talent in the crew. The crews only going to get wilder and wilder!

World Bench: How?s the scene out in El Paso and has the Drug Wars had any affect if any on the scene?
Celoe RTD: The scenes pretty cool, but I don?t really keep up with much of what?s going on.??I just really worry about my crew?anyone outside?I dont really keep tabs on. El Paso is a pretty chill city there is a lot of talent out here.? A lot of friendly people, but don?t get me wrong start tripping and?they will beat your ass. lol?? ??? How have the drug wars affected the scene?? Well theres alot of drugs here,?what you need we can find it. lol?? But naw that shit is pretty crazy whats going on but its all in Juarez.? Every day people are getting hacked over there its sad to hear about it.? A lot of innocent people dying over bullshit, but thats over there not in El Paso.

World Bench: Are you more of a freight rocker or wall rocker, and how come?
Celoe RTD: I prefer freights but the past year my yards been dead noticed the economy really killed the lines out here in west Texas. But I?m about to hop on it once again out here in El Paso my crews got this shit on lock out here.? But I do a lot of walls as well. I like freights more because it takes me back to my child hood. I used to go on vacation with my family a lot to Missouri and on the way I would see the Santa Fe lines and just always been fascinated with them. Just being in the train yard makes me feel happy.?All the sounds in the?yard?of the metal popping, other freights rolling by,and just standing up looking at these huge iron giants it just gives me this dope feeling.

World Bench: What?s the hardest thing about being a writer these days?
Celoe RTD: I would have to say staying original! People always got to say you?re biting someone or your recycling shit blah blah blah. There?s only so much you can do with letters of course some shits going to look similar. Just got to add your own twist to it.

World Bench: Any shout outs or last words?
Celoe RTD: RIP Jaws/Oger love you brotha!!! Shouts to all the homies!! My partner in crime Hedr, ?Fuse, Skadr, Gibes, Strike, Token, Relm, Arielle, Jaws2, Mykr, Deviks, Bob-o, Shewp, Seyoe, Tazer, Noid, Sams, Proe, Zerd, Supher, Grave, Snap, Ginga, Glok,?Skae, Spik, Lingo, Sayer, Cyde, Gems, Cyk, Brave, Blast,?Chemist, Duo, Acee, Dubs, Metwo, Acer, Awful, Cens, Cast, Bozo, Gets, Serum, Werks, French, Sloke, Oats, ?Machete, and all the rest of the fam love all you crazy foos!!
